State Rep. Sam Low takes oath of office, announces committee assignments

Rep. Sam Low officially began his first term as state representative for the 39th District Monday. Low was sworn in on the first day of the 105-day, 2023 legislative session. The ceremony was held of the floor of the Washington State House of Representatives.

A former Lake Stevens City Council member and sitting Snohomish County Council member, Low brings many years of public service to his new role in the state Legislature.

“I have a history of finding common-sense solutions that work for all,” said Low, R-Lake Stevens. “I have been honored to serve my community at both the city and county level and look forward to advocating for all in my district as a state representative.”

For the 2023 legislative session, Low has been selected to serve on four committees, including serving as assistant ranking member on the House Transportation Committee. Low will also serve on the House Housing Committee, State Government and Tribal Relations Committee, and the Rules Committee.

The House Transportation Committee considers multimodal transportation services for the entire state, including budgets, and oversees various transportation agencies.

“Fighting for transportation funding, congestion relief, and safety is a top priority of mine,” said Low.

The House Housing Committee tackles everything from accessibility and affordability to zoning and supply, including: the Growth Management Act; landlord-tenant law; homelessness; farmworker housing; manufactured housing; housing authorities; and the Housing Finance Commission.

The House State Government and Tribal Relations Committee handles issues related to state government, including the structure of state agencies, rulemaking, performance audits and public employment. It also considers issues regarding elections, campaign finance, ethics, public records, and state tribal relations.

The House Rules Committee considers all bills reported from all committees and determines whether, and in what order, to schedule their consideration on the floor of the House.
